Kids Party Time Pays Off For the Hospital
Little Imaan Khan recently had the privilege of enjoying her 4th birthday with family and friends. Imaan's party was however no ordinary children’s party and her birthday no ordinary celebration. This special day, which took place on the 4th of August, was more about a celebration of healing - Imaan’s own healing and also that of the little patients at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
Despite having being born prematurely at just 28 weeks and weighing a mere 555g, Imaan miraculously overcome many obstacles in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at a local private hospital. Although her original prognosis was not good, she was eventually discharged after spending almost 4 months in hospital.
“We are so grateful to God that Imaan is happy and healthy and in celebration of her health and of her life we wanted to give something back. Instead of the usual gifts of puzzles, soft toys and Lego blocks, we asked party guests to bring donations of cheques and cash for the Children’s Hospital Trust in lieu of birthday gifts for Imaan”, said Shahnaz Khan, Imaan’s mother.
“It is so easy for us to spoil her because of the way she came into this world and all she had to overcome but as parents we want to instil good values at a young age. Hopefully Imaan will grow up to understand the value of things and to empathize with those less fortunate. We are so proud of Imaan who was happy to have a party that would ‘help the sick children at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The Children’s Hospital Trust was an obvious choice for us as we knew that 100% of the donation would go directly towards the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. I am so thrilled that we were able to do some good on Imaan's birthday. Hopefully this will catch on with other families and we can all help raise more funds”, added Khan.
Parents at the party were happy to donate and most thought that it was quite a novel idea. More than R5000 has been donated so far and 100% of these funds will be used to purchase life saving operating theatre equipment for the new operating Theatre Complex at the Hospital.
Helping the Hospital is easy – this is how the Khan family did it!
- Shahnaz Khan included a note in the original party invitation with information about how to make a donation to the Children’s Hospital Trust as well as a donation brochure and envelope.
- Guests then completed these and put them into a donation box at the venue. The party table was also decorated with Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital balloons, the donation box and also literature about the Hospital and the Trust.
