MULTI-MILLION RAND BURNS FUNDRAISING PROJECT LAUNCHED

With 50% of the total building cost pledged from the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, the Children’s Hospital Trust has committed to securing the R6.5million needed to commence building in October 2010. Once completed, the unit will need highly specialised and costly equipment to continue to deliver its high quality care. The Trust will also fundraise for this equipment conservatively estimated at R3million.

The Hospital’s Burns Unit is the only specialised burns centre treating children under the age of 13 with burn injuries in the Western Cape and is also the Provincial burns centre for children. The Burns Unit treats approximately 3500 children with burns every year and is also a referral centre for children with severe burns from areas outside the Western Cape, due to a lack of similar facilities in South Africa.
