Phase 1 of Operation Theatre Project Complete

Thanks to the collective generosity of the public completion six of the eight modern theatres are now complete, three equipped with digitalised equipment. Surgical teams are now preparing the staged move into these new theatres over the first two weeks of January 2009. These specialised theatres form part of a mammoth building project to upgrade of the current complex into state of the art facility which will impact the lives of thousands of children undergoing surgery, as well as their families. Phase Two of the project commences in January 2009 with the final completion of this journey planned for August/ September 2009.

"The excitement is tangible as staff prepare to move into the new 21st century facility and continue performing miracles on little people. In addition to providing better working conditions for our surgical teams and providing an important training and research platform, perhaps most importantly, the new facility will allow the Hospital to function more effectively and efficiently. This will have a very positive impact on surgical outcomes in particular and on children's health in general." says Nicky Bishop, CEO of the Children's Hospital Trust.

"We appeal to the public to keep supporting the Children's Hospital Trust and help keep the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital on the cutting edge of paediatric healthcare. Our gratitude goes to each and every donor who helped us reach this milestone in paediatric health care. Your belief in our journey of hope has given sick children a fighting chance".

The Children's Hospital Trust is currently fundraising for the remaining R10million needed to equip the new Operating Theatre Complex.
