The Blood Brothers Testimonial
The Children’s Hospital Trust has been nominated as the beneficiary of Springbok rugby legend, Bakkies Botha’s testimonial year - The Blood Brothers Testimonial.
The Testimonial is in collaboration with fellow Springbok and lock Victor Matfield and a significant percentage of the proceeds of the 15 month campaign will be donated to the Trust. Matfield has selected the Walter Sisulu Cardiac Centre as his charity beneficiary.
100% of funds from this project will go towards the building of a Surgical Skills Training Centre at the Hospital.
The Surgical Skills Training Centre will enable surgeons to train in paediatric endoscopic surgery in a virtual environment as it is not always possible to practice surgery in a live setting on a patient. The facility will also train surgeons from all over the continent in general surgery and in specialties other than surgery.
In September 2009 the Hospital's new, R125million Operating Theatre Complex opened at the Hospital. 3 of the 8 dedicated theatres are now fully digitalised for endoscopic (Minimally Invasive) surgery and surgeons now need to master the use of increasingly sophisticated technology and equipment.
