William Kentridge & Maguerite Stephens Reveal Latest Masterpiece

WILLIAM KENTRIDGE AND MARGUERITE STEPHENS REVEAL LATEST MASTERPIECE

On Tuesday, 02 August 2011, South African artist, William Kentridge, will cut his tapestry entitled, Diva, from its 4.5metre loom at the Stephens Tapestry Studio in Diepsloot, west of Midrand. His collaboration with weaver, Marguerite Stephens, is for a specially commissioned piece for auction at the 2011 Art Benefit in aid of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, hosted by BoE Private Clients.

The revealing of the tapestry is momentous as it is kept under wraps during weaving until complete, then unrolled and cut from the loom. It took Marguerite a month to recreate William’s design and four weavers spent five weeks weaving the artwork.

All funds raised at the 2011 Art Benefit will go towards the purchasing of specialist equipment for the Burns Unit currently under construction at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

Tickets to the 2011 Art Benefit hosted by BoE Private Clients are available at a cost of R1000 per person or R10 000 per table of 10. For more information contact Amanda Bloch on bloch@wol.co.za or call 021 686 7860.
