Become a Guardian

Guardians LogoTo the Children’s Hospital Trust, a Guardian is more than a donor. A Guardian is an individual, Trust or Foundation with a personal commitment towards the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital as a centre of paediatric excellence.  Without them we could never have achieved so much.

Guardians are donors who give more than R5 000 each year – a dedicated group of supporters who are changing the face of the Hospital and the lives of its little patients. Guardians are a very special and important part of our story. Over the past 3 years, they have contributed enormously towards ensuring this special hospital remains on a par with paediatric institutions internationally.

During 2011, Guardians funding raised over R1.8million towards the critical upgrade of the B1 Medical Ward - our biggest collective “donor” to the project!

Since October 2011, our Guardians’ focus has shifted to the Poisons Information Centre. We need to raise R3million to upgrade and migrate the current database system to an online platform.  The Poisons Information Centre is the only one in southern Africa and saves thousands of lives (adult and children) each year.

Thanks to the dedication, skill and love of the medical professionals, sick children are receiving the care they need.  But our even greater thanks goes to our Guardians for their loyal support.  Ultimately they are sending our patients home - where they belong.
