Our Mission & Vision


The Mission Statement of the Children's Hospital Trust

The Children's Hospital Trust, the Fundraising Arm of the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital is dedicated to supporting the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in serving the children of Africa by promoting the Hospital as a centre of paediatric excellence and by raising capital for selected needs.

The Vision Statement of the Children's Hospital Trust

To support the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in order to ensure that it maintains its status as a centre of world class excellence in children's health care, training and research on the African continent.

In order to achieve its Vision, the Children's Hospital Trust will:

  • always act in partnership with the Hospital, its Health Facility's Board and other key strategic partners;
  • meticulously care for the assets entrusted to its control;
  • maintain and strengthen its existing, successful fundraising methods, policies and ethos;
  • apply the principles of sound stewardship in caring for all its donors;
  • continue to make every effort to raise the funds required to meet infrastructure and equipment needs as identified and prioritised by the Hospital, but will grow sustained long-term individual giving;
  • enhance its communication and marketing efforts in order to reach the widest possible donor community as well as the staff of the Hospital itself;
  • where possible, and with Hospital management's approval, support funding for programmes aimed at the development of hospital staff;
  • where relevant and appropriate, fund selected research projects in conjunction with the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Cape Town;
  • with the agreement of the Hospital, provide any additional form of support it is able to give;
  • govern strictly within the guidelines set in its own Governance Charter;
  • strengthen its administrative and managerial capacity in line with any wider operational requirements;
  • maximise fiscal and managerial control and implement a sound risk management strategy;
  • address the needs of Trust office staff through best human resource management practices.
