Members of the Guardians Annual Giving Programme recently met at the Hospital to celebrate the R2.2million they had raised as a group for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The programme was first launched in June 2008 and invited individuals to commit to donating more than R5,000 pa to the Hospital for specific projects.
Funds raised to date will be used to purchase a new eye microscope and fine surgical instruments for all open eye surgery in the new dedicated Ophthalmology Theatre in the state-of-the-art Operating Theatre Complex now being built at the Hospital.
Currently around 450 children undergo major eye surgery at the Hospital every year. Eye surgery on this level is life-changing and, properly equipped, this new operating theatre will become a leading resource able to provide the highest level of care to those patients who are treated there. It will give our children one of the best gifts of all – sight!
Our Guardians have an enormous impact on the lives of many, many children. We thank you for all you have done thus far and no doubt will continue to do going forward!
