Mbali Mahlangu

Little Mbali was burned in a shack fire in Mpumalanga when she was just 4 years old. Her parents sought treatment for her at two other hospitals in Mpumalanga and Pretoria but after more than 9 months in isolation and undergoing many skin graft operations on her head, hands and stomach her wounds were still not healing.

Her parents Leon and Tshepo Mahlangu then decided to bring her to the Burns Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Cape Town where she received a further 6 months treatment before being discharged.

Despite much scarring on her face and hands she is a delightful, happy little girl with a beautiful personality. She has been discharged from the Hospital and will receive continued physiotherapy in Johannesburg before returning to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for further plastic surgery.

Children from all over South Africa rely on the facilities and expertise found at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.

Find out more about what you can do to ensure they continue receiving the treatment they deserve.
