Tyler Myburgh

A special little miracle happened for Tyler Myburgh, a little girl who has been in the Hospital’s care. Tyler was born with chronic renal failure. She spent the best part of her early years in and out of hospital – until 2002, when she finally received a kidney in a 5-hour long transplant operation at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

For six years, Tyler enjoyed being a healthy little girl for the first time – making friends, going to school, playing, growing. And then early this year, disaster struck. Tyler’s little body started rejecting her new kidney. She was back at the Hospital, where she spent more than eight months waiting for a transplant.

In October, Tyler’s body was finally strong enough for doctors to proceed with her second kidney transplant, and her donor this time, was her Mom, Lisa. A kidney transplant is always a risky operation, but thankfully, with skilled surgeons, and expert anaesthetists, and all the prayers and wishes of their family, Lisa and Tyler’s operation was a success. They are both recovering well at home

But while Tyler’s wish for a new kidney has been granted, there are still so many little sick patients in the wards at the Hospital that need your help.

We need your ongoing support to ensure that the Hospital can continue giving its patients the same excellent level of care so please consider helping us today – share this story of hope with your family and friends and make a difference today.

A regular debit order donation would help us the most – as it allows us to budget ahead for forthcoming expenses like new equipment and ward upgrades, however a once-off donation would be greatly appreciated too. Any amount you can afford will help us to do more for children. Sign up for our Regular Giving Programme which allows for a direct debit order from your bank account for a set, monthly or annual amount.  Even the smallest donation made on a regular basis can make a real difference to a sick child as it helps the Children’s Hospital Trust plan for the future.

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is the only dedicated specialist children’s hospital in the whole of Southern Africa, and as a result, children from all over Africa come here for help. The Hospital has around 250 000 patient visits every year and their aim is to never turn anyone away.

100% of your donation goes directly to helping the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital where it is needed most and all donations over R100 per annum will receive a Section 18A Tax certificate. (South African Residents only)
