Lisakhanya Ntswabu

When one year old Lisakhanya came to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital he had an extremely high pulse and was hyperventilating as his little body was fighting a major infection. He had a swollen left leg with a large, deep abscess, and the infection had spread into his bloodstream and affected his whole body, weakening his heart and lungs. Doctors quickly sent him to ICU where he could be ventilated and after a number of hours his pulse and breathing had stabilised.

Lisakhanya went into surgery the next day to drain the abscess and ensure that all the infection was removed. After a number of similar procedures in theatre doctors applied a vacuum dressing to his leg that ensure that the wound closes up and heals properly. Lisakhanya’s doctors say that he is feeding well and is now enjoying a full recovery at home.

A regular debit order donation would help us the most – as it allows us to budget ahead for forthcoming expenses such as new equipment and ward  upgrades, however a once-off donation would be greatly appreciated too.  Any amount you can afford will help us to do more for children. Sign up for our Regular Giving Programme which allows for a direct debit order from your bank account for a set, monthly or annual amount. Even the smallest donation made on a regular basis can make a real difference to a sick child as it helps the Children’s Hospital Trust plan for the future.

The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital is the only dedicated specialist children’s hospital in the whole of southern Africa, and as a result, children from near and far come here for help. The Hospital treats thousands of children every year and their aim is to never turn  anyone away.

100% of your donation goes directly to helping the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital where it is needed most. All donations over R100 per annum will receive a Section 18A Tax certificate. (South African Residents only).
