No matter how big or small your contribution, by donating to the Children’s Hospital Trust you will be giving the children at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital the best possible chance for a healthier life.
Currently around 750 complex medical/surgical operations are performed on children at the Hospital every month. These procedures are conducted in the Hospital’s original four surgical theatres, built more than 50 years ago. The surgeries include kidney and liver transplants, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, the treatment of burns and skin grafts and plastic surgery to correct major defects. In fact, all paediatric liver transplants in South Africa are performed at the Hospital and more conjoined twin separations have occurred within its operating theatres than in any other hospital in the world.
To the children undergoing surgery it is essential that surgical teams have the best surgical equipment to ensure improved patient outcomes. It is for this reason that the Children’s Hospital Trust is calling for significant fundraising support in order to purchase much needed state-of-the-art operating theatre equipment to fully furnish the new Operating Theatre Complex currently under construction at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
The total cost of equipping the new Operating Theatre Complex at the Hospital is around R55 million. Funding is urgently needed to ensure that the Trust can place orders for this critical equipment so that it is delivered in time for the opening of the new complex set for July 2009. Your donation will ensure that the surgeons will have everything they need to perform modern day miracles.
Rapid progress in health sciences and medical technology has brought vastly improved diagnostic and treatment modalities. Modern medical equipment enhances efficiencies and improves medical outcomes. The new development will contain a new Central Processing Department (CPD), where skilled staff will follow an intricately designed system that enables the specialist instruments needed for each operation to be grouped into specific surgical instrument packs after an intense sterilising process. These special surgical instrument packs are then sent to the area of surgery within the Operating Theatre Complex that requires them. The Department of Health of the Western Cape has funded this first-world system.
You can help the Trust meet our goal of raising the much needed funding by making a donation to the Children’s Hospital today. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will ensure that the children at this leading medical institution are given the best chance possible.
