Meet Nurah
“They did everything possible to make sure that they diagnosed her condition correctly and helped save our little girl!”
Loukmaan and Shaakirah Adams
Loukmaan and Shaakirah’s daughter, Nurah, was just three weeks old when she was rushed to Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital due to severe hydration. Shaakirah says that being a first-time mother, she initially had doubts about going to a government hospital but when they arrived at the Emergency Centre at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, little Nurah received a red sticker and was attended to immediately.
The Emergency Staff told them that Nurah’s condition was life-threatening as she was so small.
If that if they had not brought her in when they did, her life may have been compromised. “I couldn’t look when they did all the tests on our baby, including a lumber puncture, but I remember that they were so professional, and they did everything possible to make sure that they diagnosed her condition correctly and helped save our little girl!“ says Loukmaan with tears streaming down his face.
Loukmaan says the most unexpected experience was seeing the parents sitting in the packed Emergency waiting room, all with various backgrounds, such as business executives and bus drivers all in the same situation. “You’ll never know someone’s story unless you start speaking to them and showing that you care.”
While Nurah was recovering, Shaakirah stayed with her baby in the Hospital and fondly remembers how helpful and friendly the nurses were, shutting down all her doubts.

Loukmaan Adams is a local artist who has recently become an Ambassador for The Children’s Hospital Trust in support of Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. After a recent tour of the renovation site of the new Emergency Centre at the Hospital as well as the new Intensive Care and Neonatal Units, Loukmaan was taken aback when he saw how spacious and well equipped the units were and how family friendly it was with rooms for parents to stay with their children throughout procedures. He makes a special mention of the nature-themed paintings and ambiance within the Wards, especially in the areas of the Hospital where the Trust has managed projects and turned previous Wards and Units into state-of-the-art healthcare facilities. “It resonates positivity and warmth and helps the little patients with their healing process.”
