You must know where you come from, to know where you are going.

As we celebrate Heritage Day this month, we honour the importance of passing on heritage to our children while keeping our cultural identity sacred and alive. Heritage Day is more about the future than it is about the past. When those who came before us passed down centuries’ worth of indigenous knowledge from one generation to another, they were looking forward, not backwards. They wanted their successors to take deep gulps from a well of knowledge that would not only give them a sense of identity, but also help them navigate the world better than their forebears did.

At the Children’s Hospital Trust, and with the help of all our trusted donors, we can leave behind a legacy which will be passed down from one generation to another, by serving the little patients who enter through the doors of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital (RCWMCH) daily. These children receive the benefits of expert care, support and healing that sow the seeds of a tree of life that, once fully grown, branches out to shade and shelter in times of need. These children become the leaders of tomorrow, and so we cultivate and preserve a very rich history. Because you care today, they will care tomorrow. The beauty of a legacy is that it is always carried forward. It is wise to give, and there is knowledge in sharing. What these children receive is a legacy of giving. When we can no longer carry the cup of wisdom and knowledge, they will carry it for us.

Leaving a protective heritage for our little ones

Leaving a charitable bequest in your Will means that the Trust can do future forecasting for the upcoming projects that will benefit these little patients across sub-Saharan Africa. Since January 2021, we have received a total of R4,4 million as a legacy gift to the children.

Children deserve to be safe and protected. The late Nelson Mandela said that our children are our greatest treasure; they are our future. Through your generous donations and with your help, the Trust can leave a lasting legacy for the little ones.

Help the Children’s Hospital Trust complete the Emergency Centre project. Types of the equipment needed include transport monitors, oxygen blenders, infusion pumps and trolley beds for the Resuscitation Room. We are only R2 million away from our goal.
