“Our children are our future and one of the basic responsibilities is to care for them in the best and most compassionate manner possible.” – Nelson Mandela
This year’s global theme for International Mandela Day is focused around: “Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are.” The opportunity lies in the hands of all of us, who together can lend a helping hand to the most vulnerable little ones and their families in need. We, who can ‘do what we can, with what we have, wherever we are’, can give hope and healing – a precious gift. It is through our giving that we can truly see the value of what it means to those we lend a helping hand to, open our hearts to, and care more deeply for whom we might not call our family.
At the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, social workers work tirelessly to provide vulnerable patients and families with emergency relief resources to ensure they have what they need to keep up with their medical demands. The Family Care Project was initiated to embrace vulnerable patients and families affected by life-changing illnesses and traumatic experiences. Often, they are in need of support for travel costs to attend their hospital appointments, basic nutrition to support their dietary requirements, and essential care items for those who have lost everything either in home fires, who are abused or are hospitalised far from their homes.
Without your support, little ones would not be given a fair opportunity to heal and thrive on their road to recovery. Our children are our future, our hope, and our most precious gifts. When you give to support little ones, you are investing in the treasure of our future.
Join us this Mandela Day to embrace little ones like Taliah who need it most. For the past 28 years, we have been dedicated to fundraising for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and other paediatric facilities in the Western Cape, striving to give all children access to high-quality healthcare.
